Had my first day of taking on the head winds. There have been plenty of days with head winds but nothing like yesterday. Took me 9 hours to cover 80km while cycling into 30km/h winds, a grueling day with the hardest mental challenge yet. Although it was more physically draining then most other days the relentless resistance from the wind really wore me down. Met another bike tourer on the way who was having just as difficult day as us. We grouped together and took on the last leg, making it from Brandon to MacGregor. We arrived at 9 and got some food from the very welcoming locals. Pretty cool, the town offers free camping and showers to anyone passing through however we didn’t know this at the time and pitched are tents right in the center of the town. We were camping with the bike tourer we met who was a female a only camped in the center of the town for safety and security
Today’s cycle was much better covering just over 120km to arrive into Winnipeg. Only a couple more days left of cycling the prairies before we get to Ontario. Looking back it is hard to say which has been more of a challenge the Rockies or the prairies. I would probably have to say the Rockies was more physically challenging but the prairies is a serious mental grind (which makes it really hard to keep spirits up and keep going), the landscape is flat and boring but the small towns have a lot more to offer and the locals are extremely welcoming and friendly. My knees are definitely starting to feel the effects of 8 hours each day on the bike, a well needed rest day in Winnipeg to recover. 😁😁
