Finally entered Ontario and have the prairies behind us. It was an interesting few weeks with a lot of nothing 😂. Set a daily goal of 100km which was harder to achieve then I ever thought. Although the ground was flat and sometimes had the wind at our back the never ending straight roads took a huge mental tole, which only allowed time to focus on sore joints and muscles something I hadn’t really noticed before. I remember thinking in British Columbia how much I would look forward to the flatlands and how much easier they would be but I was definitely mistaken. The prairies brought a whole new obstacle. Setting out each morning you could almost see your finish point 100km down the road. At least with the mountains and the climbs it gave a challenge but more importantly I was cycling into the unknown. Never knowing what was around each corner or at the top of each hill. There so many amazing sites to see and great places to stop for lunch. The prairies offered lots of small towns where we saw some of that Canadian hospitality we had heard so much of. Each town was so grateful that we choose their town to stop, we obviously never told them that we had stopped because we couldn’t physically cycle any further. There were several days that were 50km/hr head winds which without a doubt proved as the biggest challenge of the trip, having to drop 10 gears just to try keep moving. We had been told cycling from West to East we would get the winds behind us but we seemed to catch the prairies at a bad time with the majority of the days blowing East to West. Swift current a small town in the prairies is where most people gave up because of the winds, we discovered this 200km past that town which was a big confidence booster. Now into Ontario I am surrounded by lakes and lots of hills which I never thought I would look forward to. On the first day in Ontario we covered 110km in a good time, nothing felt sore and had some great spots to stop and chill. Looking forward tackling the rest of Ontario
